How To Get To Tangkuban Perahu Volcano in Lembang

Tangkuban Perahu Volcano tiger status

Located in Lembang district and 25Km from Bandung, Tangkuban Perahu is one of Java’s and Indonesia’s most beautiful volcanos and makes a great attraction that one has to visit. If you’re wondering how to get there or what should expect to see, then this post will answer your questions.

The trip to Tangkuban Perahu

You won’t need to plan more than half a day to get to the top and back from Lembang. If you choose to use public transportation, The bus ride shouldn’t cost you more than 5000Rp for one person but it’s hard to get there for that price if you obviously look like a foreign. The prices you will hear at the beginning are around 100.000Rp for one person but you can bargain that. The other alternative is to hitchhike; stand on the main road with a big sign with prahu on it and you’ll get offered a ride within minutes (don’t forget to smile).

Entrance fee

An entrance fee of 200.000Rp per person is required before you can get to the top (March 2017). If you wish to pay with card, an additional 3% fee will be charged.

getting to the top

You won’t need any climbing skills to get to the top, there’s a pavement road to the top and no other way around it. It takes about an hour walk to reach the first volcano (4km). If you want to get a ride to the top, it is better to ask the locals who are also on their way to the top and avoid taxis or the mini-buses. The way to the second volcano was closed when I arrived so I couldn’t get there. Here’s how the road looks like the entire way:Tangkuban Perahu road to the top of the crater

Is it worth it?

The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and 100% worth the trip. At the beginning, you will be surrounded by the thousands of tourist (at the main point of view) but if you walk the crater for 30 minutes more, you will be alone to enjoy this beautiful view.Tangkuban Perahu Volcano crater view

What you should know

It might be a bit rainy or windy up there and definitely cold, so a pullover and a rain jacket are a must have for the trip. And like I mentioned above, Tangkuban Perahu is not a place where you can get some alone time with yourself easily. It might be a good idea to see how it really looks like there in pictures.
